Happy New Year! I look at each new year as an opportunity to…
…develop a fresh outlook
…turn dreams into a reality
I think about this for myself, but I also think about this for others as well, especially women. As a Personal Stylist, I have the joy (and privilege) of working with my clients in the most intimate ways so I have a unique perspective into their lives, hopes, and dreams.
As I network and connect with women, we often discuss what motivates them in life and what their dreams are. At the surface, the answers are quite familiar and always similar: it’s almost always centered on family and career. Family-wise, it’s being a great mother, wife, or head of the household. In terms of their career, it’s about further developing their craft or seeking the next advancement opportunity.
But you know what usually comes up or last or sometimes not at all? The need to further develop oneself for the benefit of YOU. The drive and passion they describe is focused on serving others, which, don’t get me wrong isn’t a bad thing at all (heck, that’s what motivates me in my line of work). Most women are inherently nurturers, so I’m not surprised by how they automatically prioritize others over themselves.
However, the focus is primarily on others first and I challenge that. I strongly believe that you have to take care of yourself first which allows you to be your best when taking care of others. While that notion may seem simple, it’s much harder than you think because it’s not instinctively the norm. It’s not your norm. When you think about prioritizing your care, you must do so with intention (again because it’s not instinctive). Think about your own hopes and dreams when it comes to self-care and personal development. This a-ha moment can spur so many thoughts and revelations! You can ‘Say Yes to You’ in so many ways: fitness, therapy, retreats, personal image, and more!
When you’ve determined your personal goals, you can’t just stop there – you need to put a plan together to execute them. Reverse engineer your goals and map out the exact steps you need to turn that dream into a reality. Perhaps you can execute your goals independently, but don’t overlook the idea of partnering with a professional to help you realize these goals. This will provide you with objectivity, accountability (essential for achieving goals), and will ensure that you’re approaching it an effective way.
As a Personal Stylist, this is how I challenge my clients every day. We partner together to clarify goals surrounding personal image. And we dedicate time to work through my signature process to meet these goals. We go deep, but it is with intention and is meant to be a rediscovery. Every woman is different as are her goals, but with my guidance and passion, we turn her image dreams into a reality. I help my clients say YES to themselves every single day and I love it!
To review, there are three action items you turn your dreams into reality:
- Sit and Think! Take some much-needed time to yourself to think about YOU and your personal needs. Develop these thoughts into a list of realistic goals that you can implement. This also includes determining what resources you need to help you along the way!
- Ask for Help! If necessary, partner with a seasoned professional who has the expertise to help you develop a plan of action to meet your goals. He/she can also be your accountability partner to help you focused.
- Execute Your Goals! Stop procrastinating and just do it! Schedule time to complete the necessary action items and leverage your accountability partner to keep you on track for achieving your goal.
So, I want to ask you this. When it relates to personal image, how will you ‘Say Yes to You’ in 2020? What personal image goals will you achieve in this new year and new decade? And who will help you along the way? Please comment below to share these goals with me…
And as you think about this, frame it in this perspective. Don’t make resolutions, but instead make a promise – to yourself! Let’s take ‘New Year, New You’ a step further and let’s shape 2020 into the year of ‘Say Yes to You.’
