Inside Lafayette 148 Fall 2026, Part 1: What Deserves a Place in Your Wardrobe

The Lafayette 148 Fall 2026 collection is full of beautiful pieces, but a beautiful collection and the pieces that deserve a place in your wardrobe are two very different things. That distinction is where my work begins.

I’ve spent the past week styling clients through this collection, in my studio and virtually, during my Fall 2026 Personal Styling Event. Not everyone could join me, and the photos online, lovely as they are, can’t show you how a piece moves, where a hem falls, or what a fabric does once it’s on the body. So I tried on the looks my clients responded to most, along with a few personal favorites, and filmed them for you.

As you watch, here’s what I’m evaluating: proportion, fabrication, movement, versatility, and longevity. I’m asking what will make a wardrobe stronger, what adds possibilities without adding noise, and what fits the life a woman has already built and the rooms she’s walking into next.

This isn’t about what looks good on me. It’s about how I see a collection as a Personal Stylist, and how I decide which pieces can do more for the women I dress.

Great personal style isn’t built by collecting more. It’s built through discernment.

About Lafayette 148 Fall 2026: Time, Honored

Time, Honored celebrates Lafayette 148’s 30th anniversary. The collection looks back at the signatures that have defined the house and considers how the woman wearing them has evolved. That balance between heritage and forward movement resonated with me immediately, and it’s part of why I come back to this brand season after season.

You’ll find beautiful tailoring, knitwear, leather, silk, camel hair, and sophisticated layering throughout, but none of it feels nostalgic. Familiar foundations are reconsidered through proportion, texture, and fabrication.

That’s very close to how I approach styling. Elevating a wardrobe rarely means abandoning what already works. It means knowing what deserves to stay, what needs to evolve, and what can move everything forward.

Why a Try-on Tells You More than a Product Photo

A product image can only tell you so much. Trying a piece on tells me whether a neckline frames the face, whether a silhouette holds its shape, where a hem lands, and whether the fabric creates the effect I expected. More importantly, it lets me picture how that piece could move through a client’s real life.

That’s the level at which I shop for my clients, and it’s the lens for each look below.

Look 1: Texture with Intention

The Shearling Quilted Camel Hair Vest, Camel Hair Pencil Skirt, and Viscose-Cashmere Jersey Turtleneck bring three textures together without ever feeling like too much.

Camel hair is one of my favorite fibers for fall. It gives you warmth without weight, and it has a quiet, natural sheen that reads as luxurious without trying. The quilted shearling adds dimension and the skirt draws a clean, controlled line. Underneath, the turtleneck, cut from a semi-sheer Italian viscose-cashmere jersey that skims the body, keeps everything sleek, so the vest’s volume reads as intentional rather than bulky.

I’m not only looking at the complete outfit, though. I’m already separating the pieces in my mind. The vest can transform a simple foundation she already owns. The pencil skirt becomes a polished anchor for countless combinations. The turtleneck layers under nearly anything, from a vest like this one to a blazer or coat, or stands beautifully on its own. Keep an eye on it, because it comes back in Look 7.

That’s when a purchase becomes more valuable. One new piece unlocks several more.

Look 2: Rethinking the Leather Jacket

A leather jacket doesn’t have to communicate edge, and the Nappa Lambskin Leather Jacket proves it. Nappa lambskin is exceptionally soft and supple, so this jacket drapes like a refined layer rather than a stiff outer shell. You’ll see that softness in the video.

The question I’m asking is what this piece makes possible. Could it take the place of the expected blazer? Could it make a tailored trouser feel less corporate? For the woman who’s already invested in beautiful foundations, the next purchase shouldn’t duplicate what she owns. It should expand what she can do with it.

Look 3: Presence without Complication

The Organic Silk Georgette Tie Neck Blouse with the Finesse Crepe Lafayette Flared Pant is an uncomplicated formula, but uncomplicated doesn’t mean ordinary. The difference is in the line.

Georgette has a soft, slightly textured surface and a fluid drape, so the blouse creates movement near the face. The flared trouser adds length and gives the whole silhouette its presence. I love this combination for the woman who doesn’t need her clothes to announce her arrival. She’s already arrived. Her wardrobe simply needs to meet her there.

Look 4: The Power of a Finishing Layer

The Fine Gauge Cashmere Stand Collar Sweater, Camel Hair Knit Cape, and Wool Double Face Thames Pant show what happens when every piece knows its role. Nothing competes, and that restraint matters.

The cape draws the eye first, but I’m thinking about the job it does in a wardrobe. It’s the kind of finishing layer that takes a simple foundation and makes it feel completely intentional. In the video, you can see the volume and movement a still image can’t capture, and that movement shapes what I’d pair beneath it.

Beneath it, I chose the fine gauge cashmere sweater in Dune, part of Lafayette 148’s new line of ultra-light, fine gauge cashmere knits. It’s fitted, with the house’s signature stand collar, so it sits close to the body and lets the cape’s volume lead without adding bulk underneath.

That’s exactly why it earns its place. A sweater this refined works just as well on its own as it does beneath a statement layer, so it’ll keep working long after this outfit.

The trouser is double face wool, which means two layers of cloth are woven together into one. It needs no lining, holds its shape beautifully, and drapes with real substance. The sweater keeps the foundation clean, the trouser grounds the look, and the cape gives it a point of view. Each piece moves easily into other combinations, and that’s the difference between buying a look and building a wardrobe.

Look 5: Softness with Authority

The Wool Cashmere Double Face Car Coat layered over the Satin Plissé Long Sleeve Blouse and matching Satin Plissé Straight Midi Skirt explores a balance I love: softness with authority.

Plissé is fabric set into fine, narrow pleats, so it moves with you and catches the light as you walk. The double face coat gives the look weight and structure over it. Movement doesn’t have to feel overly romantic, and structure doesn’t have to feel severe. The strongest wardrobes live somewhere between those two ideas, and this look feels composed without looking overly styled.

Look 6: Print, Refined

Polka dots can easily turn nostalgic or sweet, but that isn’t what’s happening here. The Polka Dot Silk Crepe de Chine Tie Neck Blouse with the Wool Cashmere Double Knit Reversible Skirt feels controlled, graphic, and sophisticated. Crepe de chine is a lightweight silk with a soft, matte finish, which keeps the print polished rather than playful.

The skirt is the quiet star. It’s reversible, and in the video I wear it on the grey side first, then switch it to navy.

One skirt, two distinct directions, more ways to wear it, and nothing extra hanging in the closet. For the woman whose foundations are already covered, that’s exactly the kind of piece that earns its place.

Look 7: Modern Ease through Proportion

The Viscose-Cashmere Jersey Turtleneck (this time in Blue Ink) and Wool Cashmere Double Knit Barrel Leg Pant bring us back to one of the most important elements of styling: proportion. Neither piece needs to shout, because the interest comes from the silhouette.

The turtleneck is cut from a semi-sheer Italian viscose-cashmere jersey that skims the body, with a high stand collar, slender sleeves, and an elongated silhouette. That long, lean line on top is exactly what a barrel leg needs. The trouser brings shape and modernity below, and the fitted turtleneck keeps that volume from overwhelming the frame. Watch where the volume sits in the trouser and you’ll see why the slimmer top balances it.

Together, they create ease without becoming casual, which is exactly what a woman needs when her day moves quickly from one part of her life to the next.

You’ve seen this turtleneck before. It’s the same one I wore under the shearling vest in Look 1, there in Vicuna and here in Blue Ink. One top, two colors, and two completely different looks in this edit alone: sleek beneath a quilted vest and pencil skirt there, balancing a barrel leg here. A base this refined belongs under a blazer, beneath a coat, or with nearly every trouser she already owns.

Look 8: Evening without the Expected Formula

The Polka Dot Devoré High Collar Blouse with the Stretch Wool Clinton Ankle Pant is a reminder that evening dressing doesn’t require a dress.

Devoré is a technique where part of the fabric’s fiber is dissolved away, leaving a pattern of sheer and opaque areas. Here it gives the blouse texture and a hint of transparency, while the clean ankle pant brings it back to a controlled foundation. That tension is what makes it work, and it’s how you look memorable without feeling overdone.

What Makes a Piece Worth Adding to Your Wardrobe?

These Lafayette 148 Fall 2026 looks illustrate something I come back to with my clients again and again: a beautiful garment isn’t automatically the right garment.

Before anything earns a place, I want to know what job it’ll do. Can it create several strong outfits? Does it fill an actual gap? Does its proportion add something the wardrobe is missing? Does it work with the life you actually live, and will it elevate the pieces you already own?

There’s no shortage of beautiful clothes. My job is to edit, to see the possibilities, to recognize what belongs and what doesn’t, and to know when one piece can unlock several others already hanging in your closet.

Coming Next in Part 2

Part 1 is about looking closely: proportion, fabrication, and what deserves your attention. In Part 2, I’ll take you deeper into styling, with layering, texture, and the decisions that let the right pieces work together. Part 3 is for the woman who already knows who she is and wants her wardrobe to reflect the level at which she’s already living.

Until then, if a piece caught your eye, every look above links directly to shop it.

Yours in Style,

Roxanne XOXO
