Find out the #1 secret to chic style! - Roxanne Carne | Personal Stylist

I’m writing today’s blog as I chill in the Delta Sky Lounge at JFK airport and decompress after a busy weekend of fashion/styling conferences in the ever-so-chic New York City.  This is my hometown (Brooklyn – born and raised!) and it’s always such a treat for me to visit the city every few months.

I love coming here because I always get so inspired by the latest and greatest in fashion trends, the buzz, the energy – just everything that IS the Big Apple.  I love that folks here have no inhibitions about expressing themselves through style – if they feel it, they wear it.  They’re just unapologetic and reveling in every fiber of their style.  #LoveIt

What’s the Secret to Chic Style?

As someone who always feels most comfortable in neutral colors especially black and gray, I definitely felt back at home in more ways than one.  One thing that I have noticed this season is that New York is the land of black everything. Black is the new black!  Black is an understated neutral that looks good on almost anyone (be careful though, for some it can wash you out or make you look older).  Overall, black-on-black is so versatile and just simply the secret to chic style!

I got in on the action myself (I had planned this look ahead of time so my NYC intuition was on point!).  I made my conference and networking rounds in a black round-neck leather jacket, black leggings that were leather from right above the knee down to the ankle (super chic & edgy), and simple but sexy black leather pumps.  I topped off the look with a subtly printed gray/black scarf and a black V-shaped shoulder bag.  Here I am in the pic below styled in this all-black ensemble alongside Linda Rodin, famous celebrity stylist, and Founder/Creative Director of beauty line, RODIN Olio Lusso.  As you can see, we both got the same memo!

At another point over the weekend, I rocked my black suede, over-the-knee boots – perfect for trekking around the city (yes, they were flats!).  Like me, I saw other women donned in black from head-to-toe and they looked fantastic!  From cropped, long-sleeved lace tops to LBDs, jumpsuits, graphic tees, and black jeans.  All very chic and stylish!

Monochrome Black is Okay!

I have many clients that default to black (you know who you are!) so you are probably very happy to read this post, LOL.  But seriously, even though I usually recommend playing with other neutrals and colors, I’m here to let you know that if you want a quick, surefire way to look chic, it’s totally okay for you to go all black!

So, I’d love to know: how do you prefer to rock black?  Do you go “all-in” and wear it from head to toe or do you incorporate some splashes of color every now and then?  Or perhaps, you’re the opposite and prefer to stay away from black?  Maybe you might want to give it a try?  Let me know by responding to this online post or visiting me on Facebook or on Instagram!

Here’s to you being chic!
