The Inspiration Behind this Summer Collection
Inspired by the tactile pleasures and quiet poetry of gardening, (specifically Creative Director, Emily Smith's home garden), this collection takes something humble and grounded and transforms it into something polished, feminine, and deeply elegant. Additionally, it is a celebration of growth, of beauty in process, and of the harmony between structure and softness.
What makes this collection so special is the way it interprets the world of gardening through Lafayette 148’s refined minimalist lens. You see it in the workwear-inspired jackets, the abundance of crisp poplin, the softened grid references reminiscent of flower beds, and the floral details that never feel overly literal. Instead, everything is thoughtful, restrained, and beautifully balanced.
There is romance here, but it is not precious. There is utility, but it is elevated. Sculptural silhouettes echo the forms of flowers in bloom. Meanwhile, gauzy neutrals, petal-inspired hues, watercolor florals, and delicate embroidery bring warmth and movement to the collection. It feels lived in and luxurious at once, which is a combination Lafayette 148 does so well.
What I especially love is the story behind it. The collection grew out of time spent in the garden, hands in the soil, sleeves rolled up, observing color, shape, texture, and the quiet rhythm of things unfolding naturally. That sense of experience is what gives this collection its depth. It does not just reference nature; it feels connected to it.
For me, this collection is about more than beautiful clothing. It is about the pleasure of intentional dressing, pieces that feel modern and refined, yet still full of life, and clothes that do not shout, but still leave an impression.
