Just before the New Year rang in, I unexpectedly got a new car (yay!) due to being in a car accident (not so yay!). 🤦🏾♀️ While the accident was far from ideal, my new car is proving to be a fun and exciting addition to my world. It’s packed with the latest tech gizmos (it can practically drive itself!), and I’ve been slowly customizing it to fit my lifestyle.
On that note, I thought I’d share an essential item I always use when driving: driving shoes!
If you know me or have worked with me, you’ll know I’m a big proponent of never driving in “regular” shoes—the ones you’d typically wear to work or a night out…basically any pair that you really care about. Why? To protect the investment you’ve made in your shoes! Driving in your everyday footwear puts unnecessary wear and tear on the right sole and heel. Have you ever noticed how the right heel of your shoes—no matter the style or height—is always more worn down than the left? This can mean earlier trips to the cobbler for repairs.
Additionally, driving in certain styles of shoes can be downright uncomfortable, and scuff marks from getting in and out of the car are almost inevitable. That’s why I’m such a big advocate for driving shoes. Not only do they protect your favorite pairs, but they also make driving more comfortable and safe.
Some may think I’m a bit neurotic 😜, but I leave the house wearing my driving shoes, with my “real” shoes in hand. When I get to my destination, I simply switch—and the valets always get a kick out of it! 😂
Why Driving Shoes are Special
When most people think of driving shoes, they think of men’s styles. But guess what? They make driving shoes for women, too! Driving shoes are designed with specific features that make them perfect for your time behind the wheel:
- Flexible Soles: They provide optimal pedal control and adapt to the motion of your feet.
- Raised Nubs or Rubber Grips: These offer extra durability and grip, making them ideal for repetitive motion on car pedals.
- Comfortable Slip-On Design: Easy to wear and remove, they’re perfect for quick shoe changes.
These thoughtful design elements not only protect your everyday shoes but also make driving a more enjoyable experience.
In My Shopping Cart: Rothy’s Braid Driver
Coincidentally, right around the time of my car accident, I was in the market for a new pair of driving shoes. Once I got my new car, I resumed hunting and found a fabulous deal on Rothy’s Braid Driver! At the time of writing this post, Rothy’s is offering a final sale on these beauties for only $99 (except in black, which is $119). Considering these shoes are regularly priced at $199, this is a steal!
Here’s why I love the Braid Driver:
- Design: Soft, flexible upper with a chic braid detail on the vamp.
- Comfort: Dual-density insoles in a contrasting color for an exceptionally cushioned feel.
- Durability: Gum outsoles with raised nubs for extra grip and longevity.
I ordered mine in Latte Foam (shown below) because I adore the neutral palette—it's so versatile! However, they also come in several other colors, too! Click the images below for more info about this pair!

Quick Styling Tips for Drivers
Driving shoes are more than just functional; they can also be a stylish addition to your wardrobe. Here are a few quick tips to make the most of them:
- Casual Chic: Pair them with jeans and a cozy sweater for a polished weekend look.
- Effortless Errands: Throw them on with soft jersey pants and a long cardigan for a comfortable, on-the-go outfit.
- Neutrals or Pops of Color: Use neutral shades for versatility or bold colors to add personality to your ensemble.
Why I Love Rothy’s
Aside from their beautiful designs, Rothy’s stands out for their commitment to sustainability:
- Machine Washable: Both the shoes and their removable insoles can be washed in cold water for long-lasting freshness.
- Eco-Friendly Materials: Their signature thread is spun from recycled plastic bottles (it takes about 21 bottles to make a pair of shoes!).
- Zero-Waste Practices: In 2023, their factory achieved TRUE Platinum certification, a testament to their zero-waste operations.
