Coming off the back of last week's highly anticipated New York Fashion Week (NYFW), I wanted to take a few moments to share my most favorite Spring 2016 looks that hit the runway! I must say that my normal “go-to” designers such as Alexander Wang and Victoria Beckham actually disappointed me for the upcoming season. I wasn’t in love with their overall looks, colors, or flow. I was especially dismayed by Victoria Beckham’s collection this time around. She has definitely moved away from her signature, sophisticated, and classic-looking dresses – instead this season’s collection featured dresses that seemed basically shapeless and uninteresting (in my opinion!). Apparently, this was by design as she was inspired by the time that she spent living in Los Angeles and she wanted to evolve from her signature style – well, mission accomplished! (With that being said, I wish she had remained in England as I loved her dresses for many years!).
However, not all was disappointing with the designer collections featured in NYFW. After reviewing scores of runways looks from various designers, I hand-picked a few pieces of sartorial eye candy for you that blew me away. The four designers/fashion houses that really nailed it were Diane von Furstenberg, Altuzarra, Givenchy, and Jason Wu.
Diane von Fursenburg’s collection included gorgeous spring dresses, rompers, jumpsuits, and pantsuits. These looks featured silky fabrics, light knits, and linen. She mixed complementary colors such as light pink and navy blue and had fun mixing various patterns as well. DVF also designed stunning dresses that had a goddess-like, ethereal look which really brought out a soft femininity that any woman would enjoy. Overall, I think she scored a solid 10/10 on her spring collection. Here are some of my favorites looks from her show. What do you think?
Next up is Joseph Altuzarra who went for a comfortable, yet chic look for his spring-wear line. Also taking advantage of lighter fabrics (for the most part), Altuzarra’s looks were either light and airy, structured, or a mix of both at the same time! He played it safe with neutrals, but popped in a bit of orange every now and then! I’d say that this collection would be great for those of you that love a classic look that’s also dressy casual. I know I’d rock these looks for sure – take a look at the pics below. Do they do it for you too?
Need inspiration for evening wear? Givenchy’s spring collection has delivered once again and was spot on! Head designer, Riccardo Tisci lived up to the fashion house’s name by delivering elegant, pure evening looks derived from rich satin, sheers, and soft lace. Ticsi contrasted white or pearl white against black in many of his looks with the purpose of drawing your eye to beautiful shoulder lines highlighted by straight-lined or asymmetrical edges. The models look so stunning in this collection – which looks are your favorite??
Drum roll…I saved Jason Wu for last because it was my ultimate favorite. I pretty much want this entire collection in my wardrobe! Jason Wu really brought it this season! It’s funny because when I first saw the collection, my immediate thought was that most of the looks could easily be included in an early fall collection due to the slightly heavier fabrics Wu used as well as the hunter green and sierra color choices. Nonetheless, it all worked fabulously! Wu concentrated on layering fabrics and playing with different textures and cuts. See for yourself why his spring collection is such a winner!
