Just a few days ago, I shared my ideas on five creative ways to utilize a personal stylist. In that article, I highlighted different ways that personal stylists can help style clients outside of their everyday wardrobe; for example, business branding photo shoots, special events, speaking engagements, etc.

Today, I’m proud to highlight a fantastic client that I helped recently, whose styling focus was centered on business branding for the launch of her new firm. I’ll walk you through her goals, highlight the process, and her overall experience. And since my clients are so awesome and deserve recognition in what they do, I’m also happy to share more information about her services – more on that below!

Kay’s Styling Goals

When styling for your personal brand or business brand, it's important to think about your target audience and what visual message you want to convey. ~ Roxanne Carne | Personal StylistMy client, Kay Zulu, was preparing to lay the groundwork to transition from her full-time corporate career to her launch own ‘fempreneur’ business coaching firm. About a year ago, Kay made the decision to go out on her own and build her own business which was a very brave, yet exciting time for her. She thought about the totality of her business regarding who she would serve. And she reflected on how she wanted to convey her ability to help her target audience. Kay thought intently about her personal brand and image because she knew that would be key to attract the right types of clients and opportunities.

Kay initially sought to work with me to get a better understanding of the key style fundamentals: discovering her body type, her personal style archetypes, and which key wardrobe pieces she needed to round out her closet. We achieved this through a fun, informative Closet Edit session. Kay was so thrilled with the results from our session that she knew that she wanted to take things one step further for her personal and professional style. On the professional end, she ultimately wanted help branding her business through style to not only make that transition and transformation a little easier for her but also to help set the tone for her personal brand and business identity.

After a few months of deeper business planning and drilling down to her niche, Kay defined the ‘look’ that she wanted. It was important that this look conveyed her fun personality and spunk, but also visually signaled the results that she aims to help her audience achieve (more on that below!). In preparation for her business launch, Kay scheduled a photo shoot that focused on building strong marketing images which would be used on her website and social media. As she was getting closer to “pull the trigger” with her new venture, she connected back with me to style her business branding photo shoot.

My Style Mission

I was thrilled to help Kay out again, and we immediately dived into work. After a couple of consult calls (by phone and FaceTime – gotta love the web!), we ironed out exactly what vibe she aimed for, and I went on to develop the style direction for her looks. Kay wanted chic, fashion-forward looks that weren’t too “corporate” or “stuffy” but rather pieces that spoke to women that are, in essence, marrying their business with their lifestyle.

Since a picture says a thousand words and her shots would be shared with the world, my mission was to curate exceptional, high-quality pieces that beautifully highlighted her silhouette (a must for full-length photos!) while being on-point for her personal and business brands.

When it came time for our fitting appointment at her home, we both were so excited to get started and have her try on all the clothing, shoes, and jewelry that I styled. Pretty much each of the freshly steamed garments fell on her body with perfection, and she looked so stunning! As we worked through the clothing, anticipation built because we knew that at the end, we’d be making final selections for her branded looks. We carefully worked through the entire rack of clothing & accessories and then got down to our final selections. Let me tell you, this is always the hardest part of being styled because often, you want to keep everything that comes home to you! Knowing that she had a budget, we down-selected four final looks that she would wear for the photo shoot. While this was a difficult choice, we selected the best of the best which ultimately met her particular styling needs.
